OEM x gnuhr

At Renegade we believe that meticulously designed pieces can elevate outdoor experiences, whether you are focusing on feeling good or performing at the top of your potential. When we heard about the collaboration between OEM and gnuhr, we knew immediately that we wanted to bring it to our community. Both of these brands are incredibly design-forward with what they create, moving with intention through an increasingly crowded market, and the products they've created together have stopped our teams in their tracks because of how beautiful they are and how different they feel from what we've seen before. We're excited to launch the 4-piece collection at Renegade LA on 9/13 [rsvp here], and online. Ahead of the event, we asked the founders of both companies to share some images and answer some questions so we can get to know them better.

MEET OEM

Tell us about yourselves—who are you and what is OEM?

We are Ceilidh and Shun — business partners, husband and wife, and high school sweethearts. OEM feels like the amalgamation of our journeys growing up in different corners of the world — a shared understanding and expression of what we believe “care” to mean. OEM is an evolution of a “drugstore” — a place you turn to when you seek care — but for us, it stands in stark contrast to what currently exists. It’s about more than soothing aches or restoring lost ions — it’s about remembering that we are one, and that care flows freely between beings.

Your company is grounded in the concept of care—the act of caring and the feeling of being cared for. What is a time that you have felt this ethos recently?

Every time we step out into nature. We see the awe on our kids’ faces as they feel the crunch of leaves beneath their feet, find the perfect stick to drag through the dirt, listen to the birds, and collect donguri. Nature cares for us with the sun on our cheeks and the wind on our necks. We observe every shade of green, screen-free — escaping the pull of algorithms and AI.

Everything you make is so intentionally designed. Where do you find your inspiration?

A lot of our inspiration comes from the things we grew up with — in Japan, that meant everything from shoyu bottles to a single grain of rice. Shapes and textures that feel comforting and nostalgic. Muji has always been a major inspiration for us — a brand defined by consistency, quality, and a strong identity, yet carried with a touch of spirit.

Finally, why collaborate with gnuhr?

We instantly gravitated toward gnuhr — Nur follows a unique path, carrying an incredible depth of experience and a drive for innovation. He brings an energy of creating something that feels new and fresh — not for the sake of novelty, but out of curiosity. It feels as though we’re on the same frequency.

Meet gnuhr

Tell us about yourselves—who are you and what is gnuhr?

gnuhr (pronounced with a silent “g,” as in gnosis) is a brand founded by Nur Abbas in 2024. Rooted in ultralight design, gnuhr takes a purpose-led approach to apparel and outdoor equipment, stripping away the unnecessary to deliver high performance without relying on legacy outdoor aesthetics. The name comes from the Arabic word nur, meaning “light”—a reference to both physical levity and conceptual clarity. gnuhr creates equipment for those who move between environments—without compromise or excess.

You work on a drop model that people anticipate widely. Can you tell us your thinking behind dropping whole collections at once rather than having a constant inventory?

We’re just trying to get the products to market when they’re ready, and because we’re small, the drop model allows us to even out cashflow. If we had the resources to have everything ready at once, we would be open to that, but that also means that certain products sits waiting. By having regular releases we can give the audience access as soon as the product is ready.

Coming from the traditional fashion system, we wanted to move away from the pressure of seasons and constant renewal. By doing monthly releases, we get to set our own pace, work more organically, and focus on making products that feel considered.

You've said that you take design inspiration from high fashion. What has hit the runways so far for SS26 that has inspired you?

The high fashion inspiration comes more from a process of working that I learnt from spending decades working with fashion and luxury houses in Paris. While I’m always interested to see runway shows, there’s almost no direct connection between what we’ve seen on the catwalk and what we produce for gnuhr. The most direct inspiration usually comes from our last hike.

Things get interesting when I can tap into the resources and experience working for world class brands and apply that to ultralight product.

Finally, why collaborate with OEM?

Shun and I had some shared work experiences in Calabasas, and originally just had a mutual respect for each other's brands. During a call last year, we were both talking about future projects we both had in the works. We were in the middle of developing a hydration vest at gnuhr while OEM was working their new drink powder. Perfect convergence.
